Do it now

In today’s sermon I talked about discipline and included some principles of action. I have acted on one of them – ‘Do it now’ – and the sermon is on site the same day! Mother would be pleased.

Easter

Easter celebrates the essence of the Christian faith. At Easter we remember Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection and how Jesus’ death brings forgiveness for all who believe and his resurrection guarantees everlasting life to all who are forgiven.

We have a service at St. Margaret’s on Friday 6 April at 9 am. This will adjourn at 9:30 so that we can join the combined churches of Devonport and Belmont at Windsor Reserve, Devonport (behind the library). We will walk with the cross up Mt. Victoria, recounting the story as we go.

On Easter Sunday we have a service of celebration at St. Margaret’s at our usual time of 10 am.

All are welcome at these events.

Joy in the Lord

It’s Thursday and I’ve finally got last Sunday’s sermon on site – ‘The joy of the lord is our strength’. For further reading on the topic I recommend the book, Beautiful Outlaw, by John Eldridge. Living life in Jesus’ company is the source of the joy that is our strength.

I have made a change to my programme and will be working at the church Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If you’re in the area feel free to pop in for a chat. I’ll have the kettle boiled too so we can have a cuppa as well. This takes the place of Monday Mornings @ St. Margaret’s.

Have a joyous Christmas and a blessed New Year

I’m up to date with sermons. Some don’t lend themselves to posting – you have to be there! We’re in the thick of Christmas preparations.
Christmas Day service will be at 9:30 am and will be 45 minutes long.

Make the most of this time and may God be with you this year and next.

Do you know the way to heaven?

A couple of Sundays ago I preached on the need to tell our message of the reconciliation between people and God and followed this with a message on reconciling our differences. (See Recent Sermons, 4 September, 2011 and 11 September, 2011 respectively). The web address recommended on 4 Sept :www.Biblein11.com gives a clear presentation of the gospel – the good news of reconciliation and friendship with God. Have a look – and pass it on.

Hope

Back in my childhood we used to have a saying we would say when someone stuffed up: “No hope for the hopeless.” It wasn’t a kind thing to say and it was misapplied. I think we knew that even then, subconsciously at least. Recently I have been reminded of where that saying does apply. It is in the fact that those who do not know Christ have no sure hope of anything beyond this life on earth. Plenty of wishful thinking and nice dreams but nothing that’s reliable. Jesus says to his followers, “You will be where I am.” The sermon I’ve just added to the site (7 Aug) reminds us that Jesus is trustworthy. So, while there is no hope for the hopeless (Christless), there is certain hope for those who trust in Christ.

Our readings for the coming Sunday (14 Aug) are: Romans 11:1,2a,29-32, Matthew 15:21-28, Isaiah 56:1,6-8, Psalm 67:1-7.

A new week; a new month

A new month started today and I’ve got yesterday’s sermon on site. And a new deal began today with our social mornings now happening every Monday morning instead of once a month (see our activities page). Everybody welcome.

…and for our next trick..

We had a good time with our healthy food demo on Sunday. We enjoyed finding out how to make vegetable fritters and we enjoyed eating them. I made vegetable fritters for lunch on Sunday and they resembled Jeremy’s in that they were fritters, but that’ where the similarity ends as I used a totally different set of ingredients. Well, a recipe is only a guide!

We’d love to have Jeremy back but we can’t so this Sunday we have a DVD on a health topic and Warwick will share another encouraging message showing the reliability of the Bible. Although Jeremy won’t be with us we will get to sample one of his dessert recipes.

Meet the vegetarian Presbyterians

Announcement: on Sunday, June 19 we will have Chef Jeremy Dixon at church demonstrating one of his vegetarian recipes. This is a significant departure from our normal Sunday worship programme. We are inviting everyone who is interested in this to come on that day. If you choose to come we hope you will tell us so that we can ensure there’s enough food for everyone to try some. For more information go to our Activities pages.
